Metro Council votes on 1576 Cherokee Rd development tomorrow
On June 19, 2018, the Metro Council Planning, Zoning and Annexation Committee upheld the decision to deny a zoning change from R-7 to R-8A for the proposed condo development at 1576 Cherokee Road. The final Metro Council vote on this issue is tomorrow night (Tuesday evening, June 26, 2018) at 6pm and a neighborhood presence is important! Please consider coming down to the 3rd Floor of City Hall tomorrow night to show support of the BHA. We are number 63 on the agenda our of 86, but some of the items before us may go quickly, so it's hard to predict when our case will be heard. The BHA's position on the proposed development is stated in the following BHA Board resolution passed in December 2017: Because of the core elements of the 2002 Bonnycastle Neighborhood Plan, including that we maintain the character of the residential and commercial aspects of the neighborhood, that we recognize and preserve the distinct characteristics of the diverse sub neighborhoods in Bonnycastle, that we ensure the development of Cherokee Park continues and it remains open, clean and safe, and that we insist on, and monitor strict code enforcement, the Bonnycastle Homestead Association opposes any change in zoning, from R-7 to R-8A or other designation that would increase the density beyond the current R-7 designation and we further oppose any height variance within the existing zoning for 1576 Cherokee Rd.
